One of Jacob's new platters. Design inspiration came from a coloring book. We all think it worked out really well. The new bowl is thrown and altered with a split rim. The critters are carved over brown and dark slip. The kilns have been firing at a pretty steady pace these days. Lots of pots being made. We hope that if you are around that you will stop in on May the 9th, Bluffton Village Festival Day. Jacob will be throwing pots outside, Tim Holsinger, will be on hand with new pots and information about up coming classes. We are also hoping That Peter Lamb will be there turning some beautiful wooden pieces. We may even have Scott Kinsey around for awhile playing the fiddle. Hope to see you then.
When you are lucky enough to work in a field, where if someone comes in with an idea you can help them make it a reality, life is good. Thank you Maria and Michelle, it was great working with you.
A few days ago we posted Tim's students glazing pots. Here are the results. There were smiles all around, from teacher and students.
With all that is going on in the studio these days, Jacob does take time to make new pots and keep his promises
We are happy to say that Tim Holsingers first class in the teaching studio is going well. Smiles all around and pots being made. Starting on Monday, April 20th, Tim will begin a new class, open to all skill levels, and running for six weeks. Class times are Mondays and Wednesdays from 6 pm until 8 pm. That is two classes per week, twelve classes in total. Cost for the class is $300 which includes 25 pounds of clay, glaze and firing. Please, contact Tim via email - [email protected] - with any questions.
Scott Kinsey, old friend and confidant, guitar teacher, fiddle player and mud dauber came to play in the dirt this past Saturday and at the end of the day, played a few tunes. Smiles all around. Thanks Scott Pottery Class
After many requests and much preparation, beginning classes in pottery making on the wheel will commence on Monday, the second of March, in the teaching studio at Jacob Preston Pottery on Church Street in Old Town Bluffton. The teacher will be none other than the recently retired Bluffton High pottery teacher, Tim Holsinger. Not only is Mr. Holsinger exceptionally engaging and personable, he is an excellent teacher with more years of experience than he would like to discuss. He has been a friend and mentor to a generation of young artists and potters, first at Hilton Head High, and for the last decade, at Bluffton High. The classes are from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, with each session lasting for six weeks. The charge is $300 per session, which includes 25 pounds of clay, appropriate glaze, and firing to stoneware. The class is limited to six students, full payment required to secure your place. There is also a class under consideration for more advanced potters, to be taught by master potter Jacob Preston. Please call or come by the studio during business hours (Tuesday thru Saturday, 10 – 5) for details. Also visit the web site, jacobprestonpottery.com, for more information and a peek at what your future may hold. Jacob's technical term for really good pots - Bitch'n. Most of what Jacob does in creating pots is what he calls "the illusion of complexity". This pot went past the illusion.
